I have been having some shenanigans lately with health in general the last week or so; so Wayne and I are experimenting with Low histamine recipes to see if it helps.
I did a bit of research and found a blog called through the fibro fog (link will be below) run by Claire who is a recipe developer, cook and photographer; they were diagnosed with MCAS and is sharing restrictive flavourful meals that can help manage their symptoms! I found Claire through the healthy & Low Histamine Recipes page which breaks down each meal by course, meal type, diet, and by season.
Myself and Wayne made a meal plan based off of a few different recipes found under breakfast, supper and lunch to test out this week, and its going to be a bit interesting at first but will get easier to cook. Im not the best in the kitchen, I dont like to follow recipes as you are suposed to however I will be doing my best to keep to the recipes as we go along and maybe mix things up in the future after some time researching/tasting.
Im mostly looking for hearty filling food with flavour and that dont leave me feeling bloated, uncomfortable and nausous. Yesterday I made Colcannon, with bok-choi in place of kale and ground turkey in place of bacon and it was quite tasty; I did add tooo much broth to the potatoes so it did turn to a little bit of a soup/stew situation but it was still quite good. I will not be addding so much broth to the potatoes next time its made but it was delicious, hearty and filling.
The recipe I made today was Easy Turkey Sweet Potato Hash (link will be below) and I paired it with scrambled eggs. It went together fairly quick (under 40 minutes) with prep time being 10-15 of those minutes between laundry loads. The recipe called for tumeric, cinnamon, rosemary and paprika, I added ginger to the seasoning mix and it was amazing.
I found the cinnamon was a little stonger then I would like it so I will be adding a little less next time but otherwise I loved the dish and its going to be a contender for the rotation. My rosemary was powdered; I find it to be nice to add to dishes in that way as im a texture person and I dont really like eatting little sticks even if they add flavour.
I have looked at a lot of breakfast recipes as I find it hard to plan them out and make it easier to choose what to eat. Porridge or oatmeal with some butterbeer sugar topping seem to be doing the trick for right now; however I’m trying to find things that are easy to assemble and filling for longer. I found a lot of recipes for chia puddings and blueberry chia jams which I want to try out.
My main struggle right now with food is I want to eat is dairy based but my body is currently struggling to handle it so I’ve been using oat milk and avoiding dairy as much as posssible. Its made a difference for sure, I’m not feeling as bloated and I’m quite enjoying it.
Wayne rates the easy turkey sweet potato hash at a 8/10, i think its 9.5/10 and it will be something we will be eating again. I will update as we try more recipes and find new things! I hope you have a lovely rest of your day, and I will see you soon with a new post!
Till Next Time,
Meg
