When i was between 18 to 20 i was grocery shopping and i was in the process of choosing what i needed to put back and what to keep. A lady who was two cashes over came over and stopped me as i was leaving the cash and paid for what i set aside; i insisted on paying her back and she refused and told me to pay it forward when i can in the future.
I have not paid it back by a grocery haul yet but i have covered a few peoples orders at the coffee shops and smaller things around when i see it and when i can help in smaller ways. I think about her every so often and am amazed to this day that it happened, They were really nice and i hope to do that one day and be able to make someone feel a bit better on a rough day.
